Venues for Bushcraft and Survival Courses - ScotlandThe West Coast of Scotland has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world with areas of wilderness, including forests, moorland, lochs and mountains. Within the UK it is the perfect location for learning and honing wilderness survival skills. For these reasons Wildwood Bushcraft has it's base near to Fort William from where we run courses throughout the highlands. Here are some of our key bushcraft venues for our bushcraft courses. Glen Nevis: Glen Nevis is our main base for public courses in the Fort William area. It is well known for its beauty, surrounded by a range of impressive mountains, including the mighty Ben Nevis. It is also a short distance from Fort William - the Outdoor Capital of the UK. It is an accessible location for short courses with a wild and adventurous feel in a spectacular location. Trossachs: Trossachs is our main base for public courses in the central belt of Scotland, not far from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Perth, also a good venue for those travelling from the north of England. The venue is within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and is an area of native woodland with an impressive waterfall. Inverpolly: The Inverpolly-Assynt area in northern Scotland is a true wilderness area with virtually no human developments. This is one of the areas we use for our annual bushcraft canoe expeditions. It is a magnificant location with iconic mountains, clear lochs, sandy beaches and surrounding birch forest. The canoe journey is mainly restricted to inland lochs with the possibility of a portage into another freshwater loch system. We do visit the coast on foot. Loch Shiel: Loch Shiel is a classic canoe journey through stunning wild scenery. It is also a venue for one of our bushcraft canoe expeditions. The loch is 17 miles long and the going is varied from freshwater loch to river and then sea loch. Moidart: Moidart is the area surrounding our Wildwood base. It is a beautiful sheltered area of sea lochs surrounded by mountains and forest. We run some of our course on islands in the loch, including private courses. The islands are both fantastic places to visit by canoe or on foot at low tide. Some have trees and sheltered white sand beaches. |
